Race 2-3-4

Here Idefix foiling before Race 2 in light conditions, during the race it did not go as well, the trimming is quite delicate. The performance of Idefix was not top today, but she now foils higher (the wand has been extended). The results are under www.dosc.ae.

first race of Moth Worlds

Idefix got a carbon tiller laminated on her nose, making her look like a dinosaur, she's strong now. She did a very good start sailing out on starboard to the left of course, the winds were at 280 degree, arround 8 knots. Idefix then tacked to make the mark, the wind dropped and foiling was no more possible, but got foiling again, it went on like that to the end of the race, the boats which got foiling gaining a big advantage. Idefix ended up doing 2 laps, the winners 3 meaning a 150 percent performance difference between the lead and the back of the fleet. Idefix came 31 within a starting fleet of 42, not bad considering everything. She now her wand rod extended to more then 130 cm this should increase the ride height !

Idefix VI brakes her nose

Yesterday, just before the start of the first race of the UAE nationals, Idefix's bow carved in 1.5 cm due to the tension on the forestay. The compression strut cracked. Quite a few hours later she was mended, making a short night before getting up for the second day ! Today is the last days of the nationals. The winds were at 20knots yesterday, quite an interesting outing for everybody.

Preparing for the UAE Nationals

This is the launching area a DOSC, Dubai Offshore Sailing Club, today was registration day, a few boats went out sailing practice races with winds at 300/10. The weather is perfect. We did quite a bit of shape trials, Idefix VI has two sails, one very flat and one more full. Busy trying to get it right. Two days ago during the first sail trial in Dubai Idefix VI lost her newly made rudder foil. Some how a screw got loose and the foil got lost in the Arabian Gulf. Possibly it is floating arround it could have also thank. It was possible to replace it with the first foil but quite a lot of work had to be done. The foil is now laminated to the rudder blade and that should hold it tight.

In Dubai

Drove up to Dubai in pouring rain, floods all over the place but traffic OK. Got Idefix VI rigged up and went off sailing in a good breeze, Idefix with a new sail, a new rudder foil and new main foil was doing extremely well. However after 3 hours of foiling somehow the rudder foil screw got loose and the foil dropped off into the Arabian Gulf and was not to be found, maybe it floats ? So back to garage, I still have the old foil and can screw it back, it is not as good. Tomorrow will be an other day.

Idefix VI sailing again

The sail has a temporary fix holding it up made of epoxy-glass-wood fashionned into a cap. The sail does not slip down anymore threw the strap but still waiting for the new sail to arrive. There is also an issue with the rudder foil as the profile seems to be upside down, generating downlift instead of uplift. A new foil is currently being prepared and will test it before the world championships which are coming up real fast.

Sail head issue

There is an issue with the sail head. 7 weeks away from the world do not need that type of problem. Sugestions welcome.

Sofie goes foiling on Idefix VI

After having foiled for the first time yesterday on Idefix III as Idefix VI was been repaired Sofie went for her second foiling day on Idefix VI. Idefix VI was out of service for 2 weeks following the rock incident. Sofie found the foiling fun!! Idefix VI held the load fine (Marc 80Kg + Sofie 40Kg = 120Kg).
